Walking Papers · April 30, 2008Rumors of our demise (even the ones that we started) have been . . . moderately exaggerated. Our new record, Walking Papers will be released by our old friends at Grand Palace on May 27th, and we will celebrate (a little early, admittedly) with a CD release party at the Basement on May 10th.
See you there!!

BAD NEWS/GOOD NEWS · May 29, 2007Due to circumstances beyond our control, we've had to cancel our week of shows up the East Coast. Thanks and apologies to everyone that helped us get shows together. We hope to make it up to you somehow, someday.
Now for the good news: We're hard at work on our next record, a 5-song EP that will be called something and released by someone at some point, late-Springish.
We've become cagey and suspicious in our old age, so if you want more details, you'll have to stay tuned to this space, and also this one.

News is news! · January 05, 2007Someone told me that people actually read this website and have the gall to expect it to be updated on a semi-regular basis! Très ridicule!
Ok, so Apollo Up is back from holiday break, and we're polishing up some newturdssongs for inclusion on a shiny new EP, as yet unnamed and to be released sometime in the next few months! Once we get some demos recorded, they may show up here on the site.
We're also planning an east-coast type mini-tour in March. Check back here for dates!
Love you.

In the meantime, we're playing lots and lots of shows! Come see us, and ask Elise if we can come play in your town. he answer is probably, "Maybe!"
See you soon!

Recording - Fini! · December 01, 2005We have finished recording our next lp, Chariots of Fire (for real this time) and will be at Battle Tapes editing, mixing, and generally tweaking what we've got until we've teased out the finished product, hopefully before the end of the year. We're gunning for an April release date, once again on Nashville's Theory 8 Records.
We don't have any shows scheduled for the rest of 2005, but we will be all up in your grill next year. Would you like for us to play in [your town]? Odds are, we would, too! Contact Elise at Eat Books and let's make it happen . . . together!
Happy holidays!

About
In the spring of 2007, still working day jobs, and weary from five years of spreading their loud rock gospel, guitarist Jay Leo Phillips, bassist Mike Shepherd, and drummer Jereme Frey decided to take a break from Apollo Up! and spend some time working on other things. Then they started writing their next record.
The band decided to keep it to five songs, most of which arrived fully formed and at fighting weight. Like their last two records, 2004's Light the End and Burn It Through and 2006's Chariots of Fire, there are plenty of lean, sinister rockers. "Maximilian" has everything that Apollo Up! has become known for, high-tension guitars and whip-crack rhythms, scoring a mystery story with no beginning and no end. "Habakkuk" expounds on the burden of prophecy over a bed of sludgy riffs and baritone sax. "Shut It Down, Turn It Off" is a 4 minute dissertation on the state of the 24 hour news cycle, with a beat you can dance to.
There were a few surprises, though, even for the band. "The Heartbreak of Victory", a song that predates Chariots of Fire, rose from the ash bin, a major-key political fairy tale. "Guilty Fever" is an anomaly from another century (the late-20th), a high-lonesome indictment.
The songs were recorded once again with Jeremy Ferguson at East Nashville's Battle Tapes recording. After flirting with the idea of self-releasing the record, Grand Palace of Murfreesboro, TN, made the band an offer they couldn't refuse: The opportunity to work with good friends and genuine fans of the band. The record, complete with hand-screened covers printed in-house at Grand Palace, will be available May 27th. Since completing the record, Jay has been asked to join Austin's own ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead (on the recommendation of his Bare, Jr and Forget Cassettes band mate Aaron Ford) with whom he's been touring, writing, and recording since the fall of 2007. As it stands now, the band's future is unknown.
